Diver stung by Lionfish in Cozumel

The invasive lionfish in Cozumel continue.

The efforts caused their first victim, after a diver got stung by a lionfish while trying to capture one. According with the local authorities, Raul Platas diver instructor for the “Asociación Nacional de Operadoras Acuáticas y Turísticas in Cozumel” was trying to capture the fish when he accidentally got stung by one of his sharp fins. Apparently Raul fell sick immediately after touching the fish and need it to go back to the surface to receive medical attention. Raul is on a stable condition ready to continue the efforts to extract more lionfish from the reefs of Cozumel. According with the “ANOAT” of Cozumel the divers has already captured over 200 Lionfish from juveniles to a full grown. There have been more sightings of more Lionfish on different diving locations however the authorities in Cozumel encourage divers to report these sightings so they may continue the extraction for better preservation of the reef and safety.
